My Lisbon meals covered a lot of ground, from seafood to rice dishes and slow-cooked meat. Ramiro is here for a hands-on seafood feast, O Frade for Portuguese sharing plates, and BROTO for combinations such as squid with seaweed butter and bergamot. Follow the individual reviews for the dish-by-dish details.

Lisbon · Seafood and a prego finish
Cervejaria Ramiro
Our Ramiro meal ranged from sweet shrimp and meaty tiger prawns to briny percebes, delicate spider crab, scallops and razor clams. We finished with a prego, the beef sandwich with garlic and mustard. It was a busy, lively meal with plenty of hands-on eating.
Lisbon · Razor clams and Portuguese comfort food
O Frade
The razor clams Bulhão Pato style were our favorite at O Frade, with a garlicky, herby sauce made for bread. Duck rice, beef tartare, squid with garlic, stewed oxtail and Iberian pork rounded out a table full of sharing dishes. Start with the clams, then read the review for the rest of our order.
Lisbon · Contemporary Portuguese flavors in Chiado
BROTO
BROTO’s squid paired hazelnut, seaweed butter, bergamot oil and Oscietra caviar. We also tried charred greens, aged beef tartare, Alentejo pork with sweet potato and smoked peppers, and monkfish and rose shrimp rice. This was a meal for sharing several plates rather than choosing only one main.
