The broodje kroket
The broodje kroket was the focus of this stop: a crispy kroket with a creamy center, served on a soft white roll. That crisp-to-creamy contrast is what made the sandwich satisfying. The soft bread let the filling stay at the center rather than adding another firm texture around it.
Mustard and a second Dutch classic
The mustard gave the rich kroket a sharper counterpoint. I also tried filet americain topped with egg, making this a stop for two Dutch sandwich classics rather than an elaborate meal. My notes here are about those simple combinations: contrasting textures in the kroket sandwich and the egg-topped filet americain alongside it.
