Nanxiang Soup Dumplings Rotterdam: inside the grand opening

Lion dances, colorful soup dumplings and an opening menu made for sharing in Rotterdam.

Visit disclosure: I was invited to the grand opening.

A celebration around the table

I was invited to the grand opening of Nanxiang Soup Dumplings in Rotterdam, where lion dances were part of the celebration. The food was set up for sharing, with starters, soup dumplings and larger dishes arriving as part of the opening menu. This article records that event menu, rather than promising that every item will always be available.

The soup dumplings

The menu included both assorted soup dumplings and the signature soup dumplings, each listed as a six-piece serving. The colorful assorted basket was the visual centerpiece of my coverage. Smashed cucumber salad and drunken chicken featured among the starters, giving the table something to share before moving into the dumplings and mains.

Beyond the bamboo basket

The opening spread also included orange chicken, flank steak with chili and cilantro, scallion oil noodles, mapo tofu and lobster for the table. It was a broader meal than a quick dumpling stop. Nanxiang is a Rotterdam entry in the Chinese food guide; it is not an Amsterdam restaurant. For a visit, check the restaurant’s current menu and opening details, especially if you want a specific dish from the opening event.
