Nasi uduk with spiced fried chicken
At Little Jakarta, I tried nasi uduk with fragrant coconut rice and crispy spiced fried chicken. The rice brought a coconut aroma to the plate, while the chicken gave it a crisp, seasoned contrast. It was a comforting combination that left room for several different sides rather than putting all the attention on the rice alone.
Tempe mendoan, corn fritters and urap
The plate also included tempe mendoan, bakwan jagung and urap. The corn fritters were sweet and crunchy, adding another texture alongside the fried chicken. Urap brought mixed vegetables tossed with seasoned grated coconut, continuing the coconut thread from the rice in a different form.
Es teler to finish
The es teler was sweet and creamy, filled with avocado, jackfruit, young coconut, condensed milk and crushed ice. It felt like a tropical drink and dessert in one. After the savory rice and chicken, the fruit and milky sweetness gave the meal a clear change of direction.
